Last week was pretty amazing for the Brunswick High School athletic program.

The Dragons turned heads in football, boys’ and girls’ soccer and cross country and hope to continue their prowess in the days to come. Morse and Mt. Ararat are also still in the postseason mix. Here’s a glimpse:

Football

Brunswick, the No. 3 seed in Eastern Class A, outslugged No. 6 Cony, 47-26 in the quarterfinals Friday night. As a result, the Dragons (8-1) advance to Friday’s semifinals, at No. 2 Lawrence (8-1). The teams didn’t meet in the regular season.

In Eastern B, Morse, the defending regional champion, ranked second, also passed its first playoff test, dispatching No. 7 MDI, 35-15, in the quarterfinals. Friday, the Shipbuilders (7-2) play host to No. 3 Gardiner (7-2) in the semis. Back on Sept. 11, Morse eked out a 7-0 win at the Tigers.

Boys’ soccer

Brunswick made the trip to Bangor for the Eastern A Final Wednesday. The Dragons, ranked second in the region after a 12-1-1 regular season, defeated No. 7 Waterville 3-0 and No. 3 Hampden Academy 1-0 to advance. Brunswick lost 2-1 (on penalty kicks) to Bangor in the KVAC championship game on Oct. 23. The winner will face either Scarborough or Windham in the Class A Final Saturday at either Scarborough High School or Hampden Academy.

Girls’ soccer

The Brunswick girls took their perfect record into Wednesday’s Eastern A Final showdown with defending state champion Waterville. The Dragons improved to 16-0 with a 10-1 quarterfinal round romp over No. 8 Edward Little and a 2-1 (double OT) victory over No. 5 Messalonskee. Last year, in the regional final, Brunswick lost 2-1 at Waterville.

Mt. Ararat was eliminated in the quarterfinal round, 2-0 at Bangor, at wound up 9-6.

Cross country

Brunswick’s boys’ cross country team won the Eastern A regional championship Saturday in Belfast. Mt. Ararat also qualified for this Saturday’s state meet (in Cumberland) with a sixth-place finish. Morse wound up eighth. Brunswick’s Will Geoghegan won the race (15 minutes, 46.02 seconds). Morse’s Jason Kaake was runner-up (16:00.37).

On the girls’ side, Mt. Ararat took the title. Kate Spies was second (19:55.53) and Emma Wood (20:31.88) came in fourth. Brunswick finished fourth as a team and qualified. The Dragons were led by Kathleen McMahon (third, 20:03.99). Morse came in 10th and failed to qualify.
