FALMOUTH — Grace Marion Lane, 87, died Oct. 6 at Sedgewood Commons.

She was born in Lewiston on Oct. 16, 1926, the daughter of Randall and Alice Orr Lane.

She spent most of her childhood on the Harpswell farm of her grandparents, Rose and Fred Orr. She graduated from Brunswick High School, Class of 1944.

In 1946, Lane began her career at New England Telephone Co. as an operator at the Brunswick Town Hall. She went on to work in the company’s Portland office as a line assigner, and later as a supervisor in repair service. She eventually became a staff instructor supervisor, a job that required her traveling throughout Maine. She retired in 1984.

Lane was a Life Member of the Telephone Pioneers, a member of King’s Daughters and the Elijah Kellogg Church, a volunteer in hospital friendly-visitor programs, and a secretary for the Hillcrest Cemetery Association.

She is survived by a brother, Fred Teele, of North Carolina; a sister, Martha Croasmun, of Rexburg, Idaho; a stepsister, Barbara Savary, of Conway, New Hampshire; and seven nieces and nephews.
