BRUNSWICK — Gordon Wayne Hersom Sr., 78, of Brunswick, died Nov. 26 at Maine Medical Center with his wife by his side.

He was born in East Millinocket on May 13, 1935, the son of Beatrice Lillian Brewer and Freddy Hersom.

On Nov. 8, 1952, he married Juanita Mary Brown, of Phippsburg. The couple had four children and lived in Bath and Cundy’s Harbor raising their family. Hersom worked for 20 years for the Times Record newspaper as a Linotype operator. He also sold cars for Bill Dodge Oldsmobile for over 30 years.

Hersom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Topsham.

He loved music, played rhythm guitar and performed with many local country bands at dances and other musical events. His wife shared his love for country music and they often performed together.

Hersom loved his family and friends and will be deeply missed by them.

He was predeceased by his brothers, John, Ronald, Conrad and Eugene; and sisters, Arlene, Agatha, Leatrice and Lorraine.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Juanita; four children, Gordon Jr., Gail and husband Tom, Gary, and Janice and husband Warren; sister, Sherry and husband Lendall and Donna; brother, Freddy Jr. and wife Sally; grandchildren, Melanie, Travis, Jason, Erin, Joseph and Sam; great-grandchildren, Amethyst and Tristan; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held Dec. 3, at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, Bath. A funeral was held Dec. 4, at the home. After the service there was a graveside dedication at Morningside Cemetery in Phippsburg, followed by a celebration of life at the Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.
