DURHAM — Town Republicans on July 26 picked Paul Chace to replace Michael Vaughan as the party’s candidate in the state House of Representatives District 46 election.

Chace will face incumbent state Rep. Anne Graham, D-North Yarmouth, in the redrawn district, which includes North Yarmouth, Durham, and half of Pownal. Graham’s former District 109 included parts of North Yarmouth, Gray and Pownal.

Chace, a pharmacist for almost 25 years, works at Rite Aid. He previously owned a pharmacy with his wife, who also is a pharmacist. He is a member of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, the National Rifle Association and the Durham Rod and Gun Club, and has served on the Maine Board of Pharmacy, according to a press release.

Graham has been House chairwoman of the State and Local Government committee, and was on the North Yarmouth Board of Selectmen from 2007-2010.

Graham also started the North Yarmouth Economic Development and Sustainability Committee, represented North Yarmouth on a school consolidation committee, and was president of Foundation 51, the educational foundation for Cumberland and North Yarmouth schools. She has also served on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Health Systems Development.

Vaughan, who served three terms (2002-2008) in House District 105 and was unopposed in the June primary in District 46, decided not to seek another term due to personal issues that made him unable to commit to the campaign, according to Jason Greene, who heads the Durham Republican Committee.
