The first full week of the fall sports season is now behind us and not surprisingly, local athletes have made strong initial statements.

Here’s a glimpse:

Football

Brunswick’s football team did it again in Week 2, rolling past Skowhegan, 36-14, to improve to 2-0. The Dragons are at 1-1 Lewiston Friday

Mt. Ararat fell to 0-2 with a 28-0 setback at Oxford Hills. The Eagles host Cony (1-1) Friday.

Morse dropped to 1-1 after a 31-8 loss at Gardiner. Friday, the Shipbuilders go to three-time defending Eastern Class B champion Leavitt (2-0).

Boys’ soccer

On the pitch, the Brunswick boys have started 2-0-1. Last week, the Dragons beat visiting Erskine, 4-0, and played host Mt. Ararat to a scoreless draw. Brunswick was at Edward Little Tuesday and hosted Lewiston Thursday, goes to Cony Friday and Brewer Tuesday of next week.

Mt. Ararat, which had opened with a 7-0 win at Oxford Hills and a 3-1 setback at Lewiston before the Brunswick tie, was home with Edward Little Thursday, welcomes Brewer Saturday and goes to Lawrence Tuesday.

Morse is 0-4 after recent losses to visiting Maranacook (5-1), host Winslow (6-0) and visiting Leavitt (1-0). The Shipbuilders sought their initial victory at Oceanside Thursday. They host Lincoln Academy Tuesday.

Girls’ soccer

On the girls’ side, Brunswick is 3-0 with a 13-0 goals differential after beating host Oxford Hills (4-0), host Erskine (5-0) and visiting Mt. Ararat (4-0). The Dragons were home with Edward Little Tuesday, were at Lewiston Thursday, host Cony Friday and play host to Brewer Tuesday of next week.

Mt. Ararat fell from the undefeated ranks with its loss to Brunswick. The Eagles were coming off a 4-0 win at Oxford Hills. After playing at Edward Little Thursday, Mt. Ararat is home with Brewer Saturday and is at Lawrence Tuesday.

Morse is 1-1-1 in the early going. After losing to Camden Hills in the opener, the Shipbuilders tied host Maranacook, 0-0, then downed visiting Winslow, 5-2. Brianna Williams had three goals, Miracle Trimble a pair. Morse was home against Oceanside Thursday, plays at Leavitt Saturday and Lincoln Tuesday of next week.

Field hockey

Mt. Ararat’s field hockey team evened its record at 2-2 with recent wins at Edward Little (4-0) and Brunswick (1-0). The Eagles hosted Brewer Tuesday, go to Cony Saturday and welcome Oxford Hills Tuesday of next week.

Brunswick is 0-3 after the loss to Mt. Ararat. The Dragons went to Oxford Hills Wednesday and play host to Cony Thursday. Saturday brings a trip to Lewiston. Brunswick goes to Edward Little Tuesday of next week.

Morse began the week 0-4 after recent losses to visiting MCI (3-0), visiting Leavitt (2-0) and host Gardiner (7-0). The Shipbuilders were home with Winslow Thursday, go to Mt. View Saturday and welcome Belfast Tuesday.

Cross country

On the trails, Brunswick, along with eight other teams, went to Lawrence last weekend. The Dragons boys were second to Mt. Blue. The girls runners-up to Maranacook.

Morse joined six other teams at Belfast. The boys were second to Edward Little. The girls came in second to Camden Hills.

Mt. Ararat (along with Hampden Academy and Messalonskee) competed at Waterville, where the Sam Wood’s individual victory led the Eagles to a second-place finish (behind Hampden). The girls came in third.

This weekend, Mt. Ararat hosts Brunswick, Morse, Brewer and Cony.

Golf

On the links, Brunswick was 2-2 entering Tuesday’s match at Lewiston. Mt. Ararat improved to 1-4 Monday with an 8-1 win over Morse, which dropped to 0-2.
