FREEPORT — Freeport Community Library will host its second annual edible books festival next month.

The “You Can Have Your Book and Eat It Too” festival, in which participants bake cakes based on books, will be held April 15. There will be adult and children categories.

People are encouraged to drop off their submissions between 10 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. the day of the competition. Judging will take place from 6-6:30 p.m., with everyone in attendance serving as judges. Winning cakes will be chosen in the categories of funniest, most creative, and best in show.

The cakes will be eaten at 6:45 p.m. after winners are presented with “Golden Spoon” awards.

Prior to the edible books festival, the library is hosting a five-day book sale on April 4 and from April 6-9. The library is also selling audio books and DVDs.

The sale will start at 10 a.m. each day. It will run until 1:30 p.m. on April 4, until 7:30 p.m. on April 6 and 8, and until 4:30 p.m. on April 7 and 9. The library is currently accepting books to be donated for the sale.
