YARMOUTH — Gloria Jean Sylvester, 71, of Yarmouth, died unexpectedly Dec. 5. She was born in Portland on June 21, 1941, the daughter of Charlotte A. Pritchard and Richard E. Brown, Sr.

She was married to Norman H. Sylvester Jr. for 52 years and was the mother of three daughters and had five grandchildren.

Her joys in life were her husband, children and grandchildren, extended family, and many friends. She loved impromptu gatherings, cookouts and Sunday family dinners. Her house was often filled with family and friends. She loved children most of all. As the oldest of seven children, she spent her entire life caring for little ones and was happiest when holding a baby in her arms.

She most enjoyed the time she spent at Popham Beach reading, taking long walks on the beach, hunting for sand dollars and reconnecting with friends each summer.

Sylvester was generous and caring, always putting the needs of others first. This was apparent most of all during Christmas time, which was her favorite time of year. She loved buying gifts for those she loved.

She is survived by her husband, Norman H. Sylvester Jr., of Yarmouth; her three daughters, Rebecca and Daniel Galli, of Portland, Vanessa Sylvester, of Yarmouth, and Melissa and Mark Noack, of Yarmouth; her grandchildren Joseph and Anthony Galli, Norman Carver, Chloe and Sophia Noack; her brothers, Robert Brown, of Standish, Larry Pritchard, of Gorham, James Pritchard, of Scarborough, Donald C. Pritchard, Jr., of Windham and Bernhard Brown, of Ohio; and many, many nieces and nephews.
