WOOLWICH — Glenis J. Berry, 89, of Murphys Corner Road, died Nov. 21.

She was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Staceyville, the daughter of Fernald and Lalia (Black) Cunningham.  

Berry grew up in Hartland and graduated from Hartland Academy, class of 1941.  After high school, Berry went on to further her education, graduating from Bliss College in 1943. She met Fred William “Bill” Berry, and the couple were married in 1946. They lived in Bath for a few years and then made their home in Woolwich to raise their family.

Berry worked in the Portland and Bath offices of Canal Bank for many years. She also was employed at the Woolwich Central School as a secretary, and later returned to the financial world, retiring from Bath Savings Bank at the age of 65. 

She loved spending time with her family and looked forward to the holidays. In her early years, square dancing and knitting were favorite activities of hers. Traveling to camp in Eustis, reading and bus trips were also her passions. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Bath.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bill, in 1999, and her brother, Leland Cunningham.

She is survived by two daughters, Sara Connor and her husband, Donald, of Topsham, and Nancy Hemingway and her husband, Stephen, of Woolwich; a brother, Keith Cunningham, of  Lewiston; grandchildren Benjamin Connor, Adam Connor, Erin Connor, Matthew Hemingway, Anne Hemingway and Sarah Hemingway; and great-grandchildren Caitlin Taylor and Miah Hemingway.  

A service was held Nov. 27 at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home in Bath. Interment followed at Murphys Corner Cemetery.
