Freeport — Glenice B. “Glennie” Mayo, 86, a lifelong resident of Freeport, died April 19 at Mid-Coast Hospital.
She was born in Freeport on Dec. 3, 1922, the daughter of Lewis and Florence (Everett) Strout.
After graduating from Freeport High School, she worked for many years at Free-Moc Shoe in Freeport. Later in life, she fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse and worked at Maine Medical Center until her retirement.
She is survived by a sister, Diantha Leeman and her husband Bill; children, Joseph Bernier and his wife Ivy of Freeport, Richard Bernier and his wife Lorraine of Poland, Carol Condon and her husband David of Arizona, Nancy Volk of California; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, April 24, followed by a 1 p.m. funeral service at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery in Freeport. Family and friends are invited to a gathering after the services at 71 Curtis Road, Freeport.
Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
