FALMOUTH — Gertrude “Gert” R. Carr, 75, of Falmouth died at home on Oct. 27, surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born on Aug. 25, 1937, the daughter of Pat and Rae (Murphy) Blethen. She attended Abbot and Guilford area schools. In 1956, she married her sweetheart, Merton Carr of Abbot.

She worked in area mills and help tend her husband’s logging business, as well as being a devoted mother to their children. After they were grown, she and her husband moved to the Allagash. They then moved to the coast of Maine as caretakers of properties on Falmouth Foreside.

She was known as a great cook and a compassionate caregiver. She enjoyed visits from her family and friends, sewing, and was an avid NASCAR fan, knowing everything there was to know about Dale Earnhardt Sr. She had wit, charm, a great sense of humor and a passion for living.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Merton; three loving daughters, Teresa and her husband, Chuck Talbot, of Abbot, Cheri and her husband, Randy Wentworth, of Abbot and Roxanne Holmbom, of Greenville; six grandchildren, Josh, Lucas, Melissa, Stephanie, Hannah and Allyson; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Dylan, Gabe, Gracie, Beau, Makayla and Jaydon; her brother, Clifford and his wife, Myrna, of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sons, Randall and Rexford, and a brother, Roger.

The family wishes to extend sincere and heartfelt thanks to her hospice caregivers.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Abbot Village Cemetery, Main Road, Abbot.

Arrangements are under the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 981 Forest Ave., Portland.
