SOUTH PORTLAND — Georgianne L. Guare, 91, of South Portland, died peacefully on March 6.

She was born in St. Leonard, New Brunswick, Canada, on Jan. 12, 1924, to Alfred and Marie (Morneau) Lebel.

As a young woman, she moved to Maine to seek a career, and went to work as a legal secretary for attorney Harold Pachios.

A devout Catholic, Georgianne met her future husband, Thomas Emmons Guare, at Sacred Heart Church in Portland. The couple were happily married for 49 years until Thomas’ death in 2002. Georgianne raised three children and worked in several professional positions, including secretary for the city of Portland.

Guare loved listening to music, reading, gardening, and spending time with her many friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Louis, Sylvio, Paul, Cecile, Gerard and Ann Marie.

She is survived by her children, Michael Guare and wife, Susan, of Bangor, Connie Guare, of Hallowell, and Richard Guare, of Florida. She is also survived by her brothers, George and Leonard Lebel, seven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Prayers were scheduled to be recited on Thursday, at 10:15 a.m., at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, South Portland, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Holy Cross Church.

Burial will be private at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Mississippi Abbey, 8400 Abbey Hill Lane, Dubuque, IA 52003.
