FREEPORT — Georgia Condon Small, 83, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Jan. 15.

Born in Brunswick on Feb. 15, 1927, she was a daughter of Sara (Temple) and Raymond Condon.

On May 15, 1942, she married Glendon “Smally” Small and they raised five children together.

For 33 years she was a dedicated nursery school teacher.

Active in the Freeport community, she volunteered with the Freeport YMCA, Freeport Community Services, Red Cross, Suicide Prevention and was a member of the Red Hat Ladies.

A dedicated parishioner at The Freeport Congregational Church, she was the first woman to be appointed Deaconess of the church and helped with the Couples and Singles Club at the church.

She lived a life of generosity, and was known for her hospitality, cheerful spirit, and kindness.

She was predeceased by her husband Glendon in 1992, and by two sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include her five children, Robert Garcia and his wife Donna of Florida, Clinton Small and his wife Brenda of Topsham, Glendon Scott and his wife Ronnie of Freeport, Susanellen Stearns and her husband Cody of Freeport, and Rhonda Small of Freeport; her nine grandchildren, Travis and Adrienne Small, Jason and Noel Small, Kevin Egers and his partner Kevin LaPointe, Sarah and Matthew Williams, Krista Cameron, Brandon Stearns, Fawn and Todd Mercer, Gina and Shawn Rhoda, and Scottie Ann Small; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at First Parish Church Congregational, 40 Main St., Freeport, with a reception to follow in the church hall.
