PORTLAND — George W. “Bill” Littlefield, 87, died June 4 at St. Joseph’s Manor in Portland with family at his side.

He was born in Portland on April 25, 1922, son of George B. and Alice (Massey) Littlefield.

A lifelong resident of Portland, he attended Portland schools and especially enjoyed following the Portland High Bulldogs.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Oct. 25, 1947, he married Kathryn Cook, whom he had known since she was 5 years old.

He worked for numerous companies over the years, including Community Oil, Statler Brands, and Bird’s Eye Foods. He retired after 30 years as a New England district sales manager for Archway Cookies.

For 60 years, he was a member of the Cheverus Council of the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed winters in Clearwater Beach, Fla., and many family summers at Higgins Beach.

He was predeceased by his wife Kathryn in 1993, brothers, Henry and Jack, and his sister Barbara Hoy.

He is survived by his children, Mary and her husband David Chick, Christopher Littlefield and his wife Linda, Patricia Littlefield and Donald Littlefield; five grandchildren, Heidi Atwood, Pamela Corthell, Debora LeSiege, Bryan Pelletier and Rebecca Littlefield; and six great-grandchildren, Tucker, Daulton, Bailey, Bryce, Acadia and Jacob; two sisters-in law, Sr. Mary Cook, and Ada Cook.

Memorial services were held last week.

Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland.
