ORR’S ISLAND — George E. Morgan, 70, of Orr’s Island, died March 13, surrounded by his family after a long illness at Mid-Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

He was born in Brunswick to Chester and Deborah Morgan Aug. 27, 1945. Morgan attended Harpswell and Brunswick schools. In 1967, he married Judith Melville and, even though they divorced, the couple remained lifelong friends.

When he was younger, Morgan was a deputy with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. During the summer he would be on his lobster boat, Bluefish 1. Always interested in cars, Morgan opened his own garage, George’s Auto Repair, on Orr’s Island in 1993. He enjoyed his motorcycle and antique cars. Morgan was also a member of the Brunswick Elks Club.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Gene Morgan.

He is survived by his son, Jim Morgan, of Dresden; a daughter, Deborah Buco, of Arundel; two grandchildren, Morgan and Jacob Buco; a sister, Linda Furbish, of Topsham; and his best friend, John Kaler, of Orr’s Island.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. An Elks service will be held Friday,at 7 p.m. Private interment will be in the spring in Orr’s Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Orr’s & Bailey Island Rescue, PO Box 177, Orr’s Island, ME 04066.
