PORTLAND — George E. Manning Jr., 66, of Portland and formerly of Massachusetts, died unexpectedly June 11.

He was born in Boston, Mass., on July 18, 1946, the son of George E. Sr. and Grace Manning. He was raised in Massachusetts, graduating from Chelmsford High School.

Manning worked as a fisherman on the North Star vessel since 1995. He was well-known and well-liked in the Portland waterfront community. He was an avid Boston sports and Notre Dame fan.

He is survived by his children, George E. Manning III, Erin Bahouth and Melissa Manning, all of Boston; and his grandchildren Jaelyn, Jade, Jayme and Jaxon; as well as his brothers, Jeff Manning, of Portland, Ore., and Robert Manning, of Spring Hill, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.

The family will have a service at a later date to celebrate Manning’s life.
