SCARBOROUGH — George A. Blake, 85, of Falmouth, died Dec. 26, 2010 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Born in Windham on Jan. 12, 1925, he was a son of Luella A. (Sawyer) and Arthur J. Blake and attended Windham schools.

In 1943 he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in Normandy, France, Rhineland Ardennes and central Europe. He later joined the VFW Post 6859.

On Sept. 25, 1947, he married Ruby E. Leighton. They were married for 62 years and had three children.

For 39 years he worked at S.D. Warren as a papermaker.

He was a member of Woodfords Toastmasters Club for more than 30 years and was a longtime member of the West Falmouth Baptist Church.

An accomplished handyman, he built an addition to the family home.

He was predeceased by his wife, a sister, a brother, and his son, Dennis Blake, who died Oct. 26, 2010.

Survivors are his son, Michael Blake of Cumberland and his daughter, Sharon Blake of Cumberland; his granddaughter, Seanna Pearson of California; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Blake.

A graveside service will be held later this spring at Blanchard Cemetery, 215 Winn Road, Falmouth.
