SCARBOROUGH — Genevieve H. Seidel, 88, of Scarborough, died Sept. 26 at Seaside Rehabilitation and Residence with her loving family by her side.

She was born June 11, 1925, in Dorchester, Mass., the daughter of William H. and Anna Delea Harvey. She was a 1943 graduate of Deering High School.

Seidel worked as a secretary for Guy Gannett Publishing Co. for many years before her marriage. She married Robert E. Seidel on June 3, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Church, and they began raising a family. The family has wonderful memories of summers at the family cottage in Naples. After retirement, they spent their winters at Ormond Beach, Fla.

She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church.

Seidel loved to sew and knit. She enjoyed playing tennis and was a great cook. She volunteered at the Barron Center and worked at Heidi’s House Daycare Center.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Robert in 1997; a daughter, Helen E. Seidel, in 1993, and two brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary S. Fox and husband John T., of South Portland, and Patricia S. Carlson and husband David, of Scarborough; two sons, Robert W. Seidel and wife Sharon, of Ludington, Mich., and Donald E. Seidel and companion Jane Esty, of Gray; seven grandchildren, Patrick, Sarah, Janessa, Bradley, Teresa, Kristi and Sean, and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Oct. 1, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Scarborough. Burial will be private in New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Seaside for the exceptional care given to their mother during her stay there.
