HARPSWELL — Gary John “Pa Smurf” Gaydos, 62, died unexpectedly at a local hospital on June 11.

He was born in Lewiston, Nov. 19, 1946, the son of John and Katherine (Karsmar) Gaydos.

After graduating from Lisbon High School, he attended Maine Maritime Academy, graduating in 1969 with a degree in engineering. He was commissioned by the U.S. Navy first as a lieutenant junior grade and later as a lieutenant.

On Sept. 25, 1971, he married Suzanne I. Moody in Lisbon Falls.

From 1969-1994, he was employed as a Second Marine Engineer for Sunoco Oil, and recently worked at Foreign Auto in Harpswell.

His interests included bowling, cooking, gardening, camping, hunting and taking care of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Suzanne of Harpswell; three sons, Matthew G. Gaydos and his fiancé, Jeannette Morissette of Wales, Randall J. Gaydos and Gaven T. Gaydos, both of Harpswell; a brother, John Gaydos and his wife, Terry of South Portland; three grandchildren, Giavanna, Logan and Gabrielle; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.

Arrangements are by Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick.
