BAILEY ISLAND — Gail Delaney Starr, 62, died on April 26 surrounded by her family.

She was born in Portland and raised on Bailey Island. She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1967 and attended Nasson College and the University of Maine at Orono.

She married Hamilton Starr in 1972 and the pair moved to Spencer, Mass. where they raised their children and lived until she retired in 2007. After her retirement she returned to her hometown of Bailey Island.

Starr worked for many years in the Spencer/East Brookfield School District where her kind-heartedness and generosity touched the lives of many students and teachers.

She was an avid Boston sports fan and loved watching all sports, especially her children’s sporting events when they were younger, never missing a game.

Starr was a thoughtful, caring and devoted mother and wife.

She was predeceased by her father, Richard Delaney.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Hamilton; daughter, Jessica and her husband, Scott Lindsey; son, Joshua Starr and his wife, Krista; grandson, Caleb Lindsey; mother, Arlene Delaney; brother, Rick Delaney and his wife, Rose; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on May 5 at 12 p.m. at the Bailey Island Union Church, Route 24, Bailey Island, followed by a gathering at Library Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Starr’s memory may be made to the Coastal Humane Society, 3 Range Rd., Brunswick, ME 04011.
