BRUNSWICK — Regular customers of the Friendly’s restaurant on Old Bath Road were surprised to find the store closed earlier this week.
“It’s kind of devastating,” said Audrey Bailey, who estimated that she had been going to Friendly’s for breakfast three or four times a month for the past 14 years. “I loved that place.”
In January, Friendly Ice Cream Corp. emerged from bankruptcy protection after being purchased by Sun Capital Partners. The Wilbraham, Mass., company filed for Chapter 11 protection last October, and closed more than 100 restaurants as part of its reorganization.
According to the Friendly’s website, the nearest company restaurants to Brunswick are in Windham and South Portland.
