Portland Head Light is all but concealed by scaffolding on Wednesday, May 25, because the structure is being repainted for the first time in eight years. Cape Elizabeth Facilities Director Greg Marles said the routine maintenance should be done by the end of June. Between weather and the upcoming tourist season, Marles said, this is “the slowest part of the year, where we can actually paint.” (Melanie Sochan / For The Forecaster)

Repainting of Portland Head Light is being done by CertaPro Painters of Maine, based in Scarborough, at a cost of $65,000. Cape Elizabeth Facilities Director Greg Marles said the company is also filling in cracks in the lighthouse structure and repairing wood rot in the adjoining museum building.
