FREEPORT — State Rep. Sara Gideon, D-Freeport, and Freeport Community Services are sponsoring a panel discussion about gun laws, school safety, mental health, parenting and the culture of masculinity in the wake of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

The panel discussion, “Promoting a culture of safety and tolerance in our community; what we can do to prevent violence and foster understanding,” will start at 6:30 p.m., Jan. 31, at the Freeport Performing Arts Center, Freeport High School, 30 Holbrook St.

Panelists include Drew Wing, executive director of Boys to Men; Rebecca Francis of Community Counseling Services; Paula D. Silsby, former U.S. attorney for the District of Maine; Freeport Police Officer Michael McManus; mental health professionals, and others.
