FREEPORT — Regional School Unit 5 constituents on Tuesday voted 1,264 to 908 to approve a $27.4 million budget for fiscal year 2014-2015.

As in previous years, the budget passed with the support of Freeport’s residents, but not those of Durham and Pownal. Freeport residents voted 946-366 in favor of the budget; Durham and Pownal voters combined to vote 542-318 against it.

The budget will increase Freeport taxpayers’ mil rate by 57 cents, or 3.59 percent; Durham taxpayers’ mil rate by $1.01, or 6.78 percent; and Pownal taxpayers’ mil rate by $2.16, or 6.21 percent.
