Freeport senior guard Kayla Belanger, a Western Maine Conference Class B second-team all-star, Senior All-Star and member of the WMC All-Academic team, recently committed to attend and play basketball at Central Maine Community College in Auburn. Belanger led the Falcons in scoring this winter and led them to the Class B South quarterfinals.
“Kayla is extremely talented, being able to attack with either hand, and knock down the 3,” said CMCC coach Andrew Morong. “She has a blue collar attitude and anticipates so well. It helps that she’s been playing for Coach (Mike) Hart, who stresses a lot of the same defensive principles that we do here. She’s already been playing in a pressure defensive system and at a fast pace offensively, so that should help with her adjustment to college ball. Kayla is going to help our backcourt become even more dynamic, all while having the confidence and ability to be a leader and communicator.”
