FREEPORT — Residents in District 2 will vote in March to elect a new town councilor.

Sarah Tracy and Joyce Clarkson-Veilleux will be on the ballot in a March 20 special election for seat vacated by former Councilor Kate Arno, who resigned after taking a job in Washington, D.C., in January.

Two other residents, Clifford Goodall and Fredrick White, took out nomination papers, but did not return them by the deadline.

The change in District 2 seat will be the fourth on the council in recent months.

In the November election, former council Chairman Jim Cassida lost his bid for re-election to first-time Councilor Andrew Wellen, and former Councilor Charlotte Bishop decided not to seek re-election and was replaced by Councilor Melanie Sachs.

Shortly before the election, former Vice Chairwoman Sara Gideon, now state representative in House District 106, resigned from the council after moving out of District 1.

Councilor Scott Gleeson was elected in a December special election in District 1, with 34 of the 36 total votes cast.
