FREEPORT — The Freeport Chamber of Commerce membership drive has started and the goal is to gather 600 new members by the end of the year.

Sande Updegraph, executive director of the Freeport Economic Development Corp., said the drive so far has enlisted 150 members.

Rates for members are $325 for a Freeport business, $365 for businesses outside of Freeport and $175 for non-profit organizations, she said. In addition, Updegraph said a Friend membership for retired people or people who want updated business news and information, is $50.

If all 600 members join by the deadline, Updegraph said the Chamber of Commerce will be operational early next year.

The Chamber of Commerce is a merger of the Freeport Economic Development Corp. and the Freeport Merchants Association.

Contact Updegraph at 865-4743 ext. 117 with questions about membership.
