FREEPORT — The Town Council on Tuesday adopted the fiscal year 2017 municipal and capital budgets.

The municipal budget is $9.44 million, and $1.41 million is budgeted for the first year of a five-year capital plan. The overall fiscal year 2017 budget, including school and county appropriations, is more than $27 million.

The municipal portion has an increase of 1.02 percent while the total budget is increasing 0.77 percent. The tax rate will be increasing 0.88 percent, or 14 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, to $16.94 from the current $16.80.
