FREEPORT — The Regional School Unit 5 budget of $31 million was approved by voters in Freeport on Tuesday.

The budget was approved 1,006 to 262. Election results from Durham and Pownal, the other two towns in the RSU, were not available Tuesday night.

Voters also approved continuing the budget referendum process with a vote of 885-354.

The fiscal year 2017 budget has an increase of $1.51 million, or 5.15 percent, from the current year.

According to the Town Clerk, 1,314 people turned out to vote, which is 20 percent of the town’s registered voters.
