FREEPORT — Independence Day can be celebrated next week with a slew of events happening all across town.

Early risers can kick off the day with a delicious meal at 7 a.m.: St. Jude’s will serve its annual blueberry pancake and sausage breakfast until 10 a.m. at the parish hall at 134 Main St.

For those early birds who prefer to work up a sweat before breakfast, L.L. Bean’s 10K road race will begin at 7:25 a.m., with the starting lineup on Bow Street at 7:05 a.m.

A 1-mile fun run/walk will follow at 9 a.m. Registration can be completed online at register.chronotrack.com. Those participating in either event should pick up their registration packets in the Old Town Hall at the Hilton Garden Inn on Monday, July 2 from 4-7 p.m. or on race day from 6-7:15 a.m. for the 10K and 6-9 a.m. for the walk/run.

At 10 a.m., the annual Fourth of July parade will commence from Kendall Lane south to Holbrook Streets. Anyone from neighborhood groups to local businesses are welcome to participate in this year’s lineup, but must register by June 29 by visiting fcsmaine.org

L.L. Bean will kick off its free Summer in the Park concert series on July 4 with soul/R&B artist Devon Gilfillian at 7:30 p.m. in L.L. Bean’s Discovery Park.

Finally, the annual 4th of July fireworks show will begin at 9:15 p.m. Because the final layer of Freeport High School’s new track will be installed the week of the show and needs time to cure, the Joan Benoit Samuelson Track & Field will be off limits during the fireworks.
