PORTLAND — Area health-care professionals are offering free skin and oral cancer screenings for people who are uninsured or under-insured, Maine Medical Center Pierter announced in a press release.

“Screenings for skin will include a thorough visual exam from a qualified health professional who will provide useful prevention tips,” spokeswoman Susan Pierter said.

Screenings will be held from 6-8 p.m. on May 19 at Mercy Oncology-Hematology Center, Fore River Medical Building, 195 Fore River Parkway, Suite 360, Portland, and on May 21 at Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute, 100 Campus Drive, Suite 121, Scarborough.

Pierter recommended the May 21 oral cancer screening for people who do not have routine dental care or are concerned about conditions such as unhealed mouth sores, lumps, tongue pain, or white or reddish patches inside their mouths.
