BRUNSWICK — Fred B. Brooks Jr., 86, died Feb. 27 at Mid Coast Senior Health Center.

Born in Brunswick July 1, 1923, he was the son of Fred B. Sr. and Edna L. Hamlin Brooks. 

After he attended Brunswick High School, he worked for Bath Iron Works and Brunswick Naval Air Station.   

During World War II he signed up for the Merchant Marines and served for eight years.

On Sept. 14, 1950, he married Pearl Goodwin.

Since 1970 he was the owner and operator of  Brooks Farm and Feed Supply on Union Street in Brunswick and enjoyed his work and talking with his customers.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Wanda Brooks, in 2001.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Pearl; a son, Gary Brooks of Brunswick, and three daughters, Sharon Matthews and her husband Robert of Campobello, New Brunswick, Julie Brooks of Brunswick and Lori Skillin of Dresden; two sisters, Louise Christy of Windham and Evelyn Carmody of Lynnfield Center, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 4 at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, where a funeral service will be held the next day at 1 p.m. Friday, March 5.
