PORTLAND — Frances Tarazewich Mailman, 90, of Portland, passed away on Friday at her home with her husband and family by her side.

She was born on June 21, 1923, in Saco, the elder child of Bronislaw and Amelia (Nellie) Rish Tarazewich.

Mailman was employed by Pepperell Manufacturing in Biddeford, Saco Hospital and Waterman Pen Company in Seymour, Conn. She and husband Gerald Mailman owned and operated Mailman’s Service in Portland for more than 35 years.

She was a founding member of the Portland Taxpayer’s Association, where she enrolled more than 1,100 members.

Mailman enjoyed summers at the seashore and lakeside at the family’s cottage. In winter, she loved to travel.

She was predeceased by a sister, Bernice Ayotte; and three brothers, Joseph, Frank and Walter Tarazewich.

Mailman is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gerald; two sons, Robert of Wisconsin, and Richard, and his wife Suzanne, of Portland; nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons. She is also survived by a sister, Ann Brouillard, of Saco; two sisters-in- law, Joan Tarazewich, of Topsham, and Judith Tarazewich, of Waterboro, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Maine Medical Center, Cedars, VNA Home Care and Hospice and Tootsie’s Girls for the excellent help, care and love that was shown to Mailman in her time of need.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
