SOUTH PORTLAND — Frances M. Tripp, 88, died Feb. 11 at South Portland Nursing Home.

On Feb. 26, 1922, she was born in Portland, the daughter of Frank and Annie (Sullivan) Malloy.  

A lifelong South Portland resident, she attended local schools and graduated from South Portland High School in 1939.

She worked as a hairdresser before raising her family of four boys with her second husband,  Stanley Sr.  

Later on she worked at Fairchild Semiconductor until she retired.  

She enjoyed dining out and playing Gin Rummy with friends late into the night.

Before entering the nursing home, she spent countless hours taking care of relatives and friends, and truly enjoyed being able to help them, driving them to medical appointments or doing their grocery shopping.  

She was predeceased by her first husband, Melville Tripp, who was killed during World War II, and by her second husband, Stanley Tripp Sr., who died in 1979.

She is survived by four sons, Stanley A. Tripp Jr., and his wife Hope of West Hartford, Conn., Thomas N. Tripp and his wife Diane of Standish, Timothy A. Tripp of Portland, and James E. Tripp of Portland; six grandchildren, Michael, William, Kathryn, Jonathan, Benjamin, and James Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Lily and Eva.  

Memorial services were held earlier this week.

Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
