SOUTH PORTLAND — The city’s legislative delegation will host a community forum on Monday, April 6, to discuss tax reform legislation that will be considered in the coming weeks.

The Taxation Committee is currently considering legislation that would reduce the top income rate by 20 percent, from 8.5 percent to 6.5 percent.

Rep. Linda Valentino, D-Saco, and Larry Bliss, D-South Portland, will provide information about the bill that is expected to produce $75 million in tax relief.

Rep. Terry Morrison, who is sponsoring the event, said the forum is a good way for residents to learn the details of the proposal that seeks to make major updates to the state’s tax code.

The forum will start at 6 p.m. in the senior wing of the Community Center, located 21 Nelson Road behind South Portland High School.
