CAPE ELIZABETH — No one applied for the only available Fort Williams Park food vendor license before the deadline passed last week.
The town hopes to find another ice cream vendor to replace Gorgeous Gelato, whose owners decided not to return after last year, leaving a vacancy in the Ship Cove area of the park.
“We were hoping to get at least one, but we didn’t get anything,” Public Works Director Bob Malley said. “Not sure what the story is. It’s a decent location where it was moved to.”
He said the town is going to try advertising the availability again, but may have to change the parameters to make it more appealing, suggesting the park committee could decide to reduce the fee or alter the allowed menu.
The current permit only allows the sale of cold beverages, snacks and ice cream. The minimum bid for the Ship Cove Beach area license is $3,000.
The vendor spot is one of four in the park. The other vendors include the Bite Into Maine lobster roll cart; Frank’s Franks hot dog stand, and cookie vendor Atlantic Cookie Co.
In the past, the permit fees have generated about $16,000 a year for the park.
Interested applicants should reply to a request for proposals that is available on the town website.
