PORTLAND — The gubernatorial campaign of U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, D-Maine, hopes to get a boost from former President Bill Clinton in a Sept. 2 rally at the Ocean Gateway terminal.

The event is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Registration for the event closed three hours after it was announced on Tuesday, according to the Michaud campaign, which said more than 750 people responded online.

Clinton’s last visit to Maine was in 2010, when he visited Southern Maine Community College in South Portland to campaign for Michaud, U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-Maine, and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Elizabeth Mitchell.
