Paul Zdanowicz, a one-time Portland High standout and current Scarborough resident, was recently inducted into the Maine Sports Legends’ Hall of Honors. Zdanowicz played football and basketball on championship teams at Portland High in 1943 and 1944, After serving two years in the Navy in World War II, Zdanowicz played on an undefeated freshman basketball team at the University of Maine, then transferred to Bowdoin, where he played football and basketball. Zdanowicz later coached at Portland and Westbrook and was a longtime teacher/coach and later superintendent in Methuen, Mass. Zdanowicz remains active helping coach his granddaughter, Hillary Nash, the Falmouth field hockey varsity goalie.
