FALMOUTH — Floris Perle Higgins Jones, 83, died from cancer March 20.
Born Aug. 3, 1926, in Hartford, Conn., she was the daughter of Wyman and Alice (Peterson) Higgins.
A student of piano and voice for many years, she was a lifelong learner.
Early in her professional life, she was a licensed securities broker and real estate broker. Her later career was devoted to hotel and restaurant management.
She had three loves: family, volunteering and music.
She delighted in each family member’s individual character.
An active volunteer, she managed the nutrition program for Southern Maine Agency on Aging, volunteered with the Retirement Senior Volunteer Program, Meals on Wheels, Mercy Hospital, Maine Medical Center, 75 State Street, Scarborough Terrace, Scouting, Civil Defense, read for the visually impaired and played piano for retirement home residents.
She sang in a variety of choirs, participated in local theatre productions and loved to play the piano for family and group sing-a-longs.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Hazel Foss and Betty Cox, a brother, Samuel Foss, and her former husband, Henry G. Jones, Jr.
She is survived by her loving family, her three children, Susan J. Holmes and Carroll, Philip W. Jones and Patricia, Stephen A. Jones and Jeannine; six grandchildren, Anthony Jones and Sarah, Keith Jones, Andrew Jones, Staff Sgt. Michael Jones, Emily Jones, and Audrey Jones; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Soule and Alice Hodgkin; several cousins; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Hobbs Funeral Home in South Portland.
