FREEPORT — Florence Mildred Toothaker, 88, formerly of Brunswick, died April 19 at Hawthorne House.

She was born in East Harpswell on June 30, 1926, the daughter of Stephen and Ida Miller Catlin. She attended the Cranberry Horn School in East Harpswell and was a 1945 graduate of Brunswick High School.

In February 1946 she married Raymond S. Toothaker, and four years later the couple moved to Topsham. Florence was a homemaker devoted to raising her family, and later worked at Health-Tex until her retirement.

Toothaker was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Brunswick, and volunteered with the Cub Scouts and with a respite program in Brunswick. She also lived at Pejepscot Terrace for several years.

Besides raising her children, she loved being around the ocean, playing Scrabble, and eating Italian sandwiches with her friends.

Toothaker is survived by two daughters, Ellen McLemore and husband, Homer, of Windham, and Judy Reid, of Brunswick; a son, David Toothaker and wife, Naomi, of Sanford; four grandchildren, Andrew and Eric Toothaker, Michelle Lewis and Adam McLemore; and five great-grandchildren, Abigail and Jacob Toothaker, and Ian, Hunter and Katherine Lewis.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, May 4, from 6-8 p.m. at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick. A funeral will be held Tuesday, May 5, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Judkins officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Topsham.
