SOUTH PORTLAND — Florence F. Montague Tibbetts, 74, of South Portland, died July 10, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born to Walter L. and Blanche Elizabeth Dennis Montague on Aug. 22, 1938.

She graduated from Portland High School in 1956, and married Sidney “Sonny” Tibbetts on Jan. 3, 1958. Together, the couple raised three children, David Alan, Brian Kirk and Shawn Eric.

Tibbetts loved camping at Papoose Pond and traveling on cruises and road trips. She visited much of the country while traveling with her husband, her sister Nancy, brother Mark and brother-in-law Nat.

Tibbetts was predeceased by Nancy on April 19, 2010, and a brother, Kent, of Swans Island, on March 14, 2012.

She is survived by her sons David Alan, of Maryland, Brian and his girlfriend Dawn, of South Portland, and Shawn and his wife Brenda, of Standish; sister Phyllis Grenier, of New Hampshire; twin brother Mark, of South Portland; sister Bethany, of Portland; brother Gary, of Windham; sister Marcia and her partner Dale, of Casco; 10 grandchildren, Corey, Lindsay, Crystal, Andrew, Amy, Andy, Kyle, Adrian, Kayla and Breanna; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at Hobbs Funeral Home in South Portland, followed by burial at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
