SOUTH PORTLAND — Flora Susanne Van Mater, 59, died unexpectedly at home on June 17.
On Nov. 29, 1950, she was born in New Brunswick, N.J., a daughter of John S. Van Mater, Sr. and Flora (Faulkingham) Van Mater.
She attended Endicott College in Massachussetts.
After spending time in Colorado, she lived in Keene, N.H., before settling in South Portland.
An artistic, elegant woman with a beautiful spirit, she had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed helping others.
She was predeceased by her parents.
Surviving are her three children, Lindsey McFarland, her husband Sean, and her son Rio of Healdsburg, Calif., Travis Fullmer-Smith of Keene, N.H., and Stephanie Smith of South Portland; a sister, Nancy V. Schoeller and her husband John of Danbury, N.H., and a brother, John S. Van Mater, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; three nieces, Diana S. Akins of Worcester, Mass., Kathryn and Jacqueline Van Mater of Goodlettsville, Tenn., and one nephew, John J. Schoeller of Wakefield, R.I.
Memorial services were earlier this week.
Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
