Cheverus senior standout Joe Fitzpatrick was named the Gatorade Maine Football Player of the Year last week. Fitzpatrick, a running back, who was already honored at the league level and named Cheverus’ Fall Male Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row, ran for 2,071 yards and 27 touchdowns this season. Fitzpatrick, who is still weighing his college options, is in the running for one more big honor, the trophy which shares his name, the Fitzpatrick Trophy, given to the state’s top senior player, which will be announced next month.
