HARPSWELL — The Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association will hold a public forum at Cundy’s Harbor Community Hall called “Beyond the Bow: A fisheries needs assessment of Harpswell” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15.

Program Associate Kendra Jo Grindle will discuss the results of a comprehensive fishing community needs assessment taken by the Fishermen’s Association last year.

The assessment was interview-based with over 200 hours of interviews with around 80 members of the Harpswell fishing community. The Fishermen’s Association will outline five of the core themes generated by the interviews, discuss the needs identified and offer community-based solutions.

“This project is something we’ve never tried before,” said  Ben Martens, executive director of MCFA. “We wanted to go to the fishing community and have a real conversation about what their needs are, and I am very excited to finally be able to share the outcome of this process.”
