FREEPORT — The town’s first medical marijuana growing operation has been approved by the town.

Freeport’s Staff Review Board on Oct. 6 approved Brody Pagel’s change of use application for 1456 U.S. Route 1.

Pagel is still in the process of purchasing the building from Bethesda Christian Broadcasting for $340,000. Fusion Dance is leasing the basement and first floor of the three-story building.

Pagel, a licensed caregiver, said he will deliver the product to patients, and  retail sales will not take place on site. There also won’t be a sign in front of the building that identifies the purpose of the business, and the outside of the building will remain unchanged. Renovations will be done only on the interior.

There is no schedule yet for renovating the building and opening the medical marijuana business because it still depends on funding.
