SOUTH PORTLAND — A documentary film telling the story of two very different Maine towns and their people will have its world premiere at the Maine International Film Festival in Waterville.
“The Rivals” was filmed by Lone Wolf Documentary Group of South Portland and Hollywood. The film company is owned by Kirk Wolfinger, who has made documentaries for the History Channel, Discovery and National Geographic, among others.
The film tells the story of the towns of Rumford, considered by many as a mill town, and Cape Elizabeth, considered an affluent suburb, their football teams, coaches and families.
Lone Wolf filmmakers spent many weeks at Mountain Valley High School and Cape Elizabeth High School filming hundreds of hours of footage about two years ago.
A spokeswoman for the film festival in Waterville said “The Rivals” will open the 10-day festival on Friday night, July 10, at the historic Waterville Opera House. It will be shown again at another festival venue during the week.
Once the film completes showings at various festivals around the country, it will be shown on the Smithsonian Channel.
