BATH — Faylene Hunnewell Cornish, 77, of Bath, died at Mid Coast Hospital April 18. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family.

The only child of Allan and Lena Hunnewell, she was born July 4, 1935, in Bingham. She graduated from Wiscasset High School, where she was valedictorian, in 1953, and from Fisher Junior College, in Boston, in 1955. That year, she also married Albert Cornish of Woolwich. She then went on to work for 30 years as a bookkeeper and secretary at Coastal Pediatrics, in Bath.

An avid sports fan, Cornish took great pleasure in the athletic achievements of her son Michael and granddaughter Abby. She also enjoyed gardening with her daughter Nancy, and took special delight in her extended family.

Her husband Albert died in 1996. She was also predeceased by her best friend Laurene Mattor, who died in 1992.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Burden, and Nancy’s partner Ken Martin, both of Woolwich; son Michael and his wife Joyce, of New Gloucester; and three grandchildren, Abby Sue Cornish, Andrew Turner and Kristen Turner.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at Desmond Funeral Home, in Bath, with Deaconal Minister Beverly Abbott officiating. Burial will be in Bingham Village Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Cornish’s memory may be made to the Palliative and Support Care Fund, Mid Coast Hospital, 123 Medical Center Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011, or the Coastal Humane Society, 30 Range Road., Brunswick, ME 04011.
