Falmouth senior Michael Ryan, flanked by parents Sean and Lindsey, along with (clockwise from far left), Yachtsmen coach Mike LeBel, assistant coach Chris Richards and athletic director Cooper Higgins, signs his National Letter of Intent Wednesday afternoon to attend and play lacrosse at Providence College.

“They were recruiting me since last fall,” said Ryan, who was a key member of the 2011 Class B state championship team and who plans to study business at Providence. “I talked to other schools, but I stayed in touch with (Providence). I really like the coaches. I felt like it was the best fit for me athletically and academically. If I work hard, I might be able to play. Since I was in fourth grade, I wanted to play in college.”

“I think he’s going to do fine,” said Falmouth coach Mike LeBel. “I think playing football this year will help him tremendously when it comes to the physical nature of Division I athletics. I think he has a very high lacrosse IQ. He’ll work at it. He’s going to have to get a little more physical and a little stronger because the kids at this level, it’s all about speed and strength. He’s our first Division I lacrosse player. I don’t think it’s going to be our last.”
