Falmouth junior Adelaide Cooke, who won the discus (131 feet) and shot put (39-11.5) at the Class A state outdoor track and field meet June 4, helping the Yachtsmen girls’ team win its first state championship in a quarter century, was recently named Maine’s female Gatorade track and field Athlete of the Year. Cooke also placed fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.14 seconds) at states and went on to place second in the discus (117-4) at New Englands. Cooke, who also plays soccer, is an ‘A’ student and has volunteered with youth soccer groups and at Maine Medical Center.
