FALMOUTH — A high school English teacher who was charged with possession of marijuana after a raid of the school parking lot pleaded innocent to the charge on Dec. 16.

Mark Melnicove, 58, of Dresden, was charged in November after a search of the high school parking lot allegedly turned up 2.4 grams of marijuana in his car.

Melnicove was suspended from teaching until Dec. 6, when he returned after releasing a letter to the school community apologizing for what he called “a serious offense against the school.”

In the letter, he stated the marijuana was for medical purposes. But police said Melnicove did not produce the letter required from a doctor for the drug to be in his possession legally.

A trial date has not been set.
