Unlocked vehicles targeted

9/9 at 8:32 a.m. Police received complaints from Pine and Merrill roads of items missing from unlocked vehicles. Cars parked all over Falmouth have been targeted in a string of burglaries targeting unlocked vehicles. Backpacks full of textbooks, cash, electronics and even spare change have been stolen. While two suspects have been arrested in connection with some of the thefts, the burglaries have continued and police suspect there is a group of criminals taking advantage of residents’ tendency to leave their cars unlocked. Police encourage people to remove valuables from vehicles and always keep cars locked, even when running quick errands.

Directions didn’t pan out

9/9 at 11:20 p.m. Police stopped a suspicious vehicle pulling out of Waldo’s on Route 1. The driver was reportedly following cellphone directions to Pizza Time in Portland and ended up in Falmouth. The officer gave the driver directions.

The pint of no return

9/13 at 9:38 p.m. EMS responded to a call from a resident on Slocum Drive reporting a man in a minivan outside the residence who appeared to need medical attention. Police and EMS determined the man was heavily intoxicated, but not in need of medical assistance. They reportedly told him not to drive and left him there. An officer was instructed to keep an eye on the vehicle. At 11:25 p.m., the man allegedly started up the vehicle and drove down the road. Officer Lucas Hallett arrested Justin R. Erdmann, 21, of Cumberland, and charged him with operating under the influence.
